NCTT's rotating robots are skilled at screening

Robotic arm Visitors and employees alike are visibly impressed when they view the robots at the National Institutes of Health's Center for Translational Therapeutics (NCTT). Whether for the first or the fifteenth time, the words "wow" or "cool" routinely drop from their lips. (more)

What We Do

NCTT is a unique organization that bridges the research gap between novel scientific discoveries related to a disease target (gene/protein modulator or causative agent) and potential therapeutics ready for regulatory testing. Across this research realm, NCTT develops functional screening assays, conducts quantitative high through-put screening, carries outanalytical and medicinal chemistry, solves structure-activity relationships, supports pre-clinical and early clinical efficacy and toxicity research and facilitates regulatory review. Novel and innovative approaches and technology drive NCTT research activities and support functions (technology transfer, collaborative agreements/awards, contracting mechanisms and strategic alliances).

How We Work

NCTT functions as a matrixed organization. Teams are organized around research projects. Each project team has members from several disciplines. Equal rank and responsibilities are given to each discipline. Within disciplines, staff share challenges and successes to facilitate problem solving and cross fertilization of ideas. Each project team benefits from the discipline discussions and each discipline benefits from the team approach. There are no independent laboratories or tenured investigators at the center. The ultimate measure of success is moving viable ideas through go/no go decisions to optimize the therapeutic development process.
